An explanation of the RZSS, the Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park is running, said: "We recently discovered a marked and rapid decline in the their behavior and their attitude and was rapidly aging and possibly signs of senility are."

"Recently all those responsible for it was unfortunately, that were our only remaining way, their age and health reasons put to sleep."

Simon girling, RZSS Director of veterinary services, said: "we have's Mercedes condition was monitored for some time and a number of different therapies have tried, some success for their advanced arthritis, that we had."

"But also on medication, Mercedes, a significant turn for the worse has now taken on their mobility and also shows signs of intellectual confusion."

"This deterioration in be probably caused us to intervention and human Euthanase it."
