Vienna, to honor WWII deserters

Vienna Green Party Chairman David Ellensohn said that the monument to other memorials to Wehrmacht deserters in some German cities could be modeled.

"Overdue"

And campaigns Thomas Geldmacher told the BBC that the monument was long overdue.

"For a very long time have completely neglected deserters in Austrian society," he said.

"In many parts of the Austrian population are deserters as cowards, traitors, even comrade killer." "That could change somehow a crafts and especially the public debate to the construction of the monument."

Mr money maker said an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 Austrians from the Wehrmacht, deserted in the last days of second WELTKRIEGS.

Since the 1980's Austria has a number of steps, the recognition of the role played its citizens in Nazi atrocities.
