Pile-up in freak German sandstorm

9 April 2011, last updated at 08: 07 GMT worked emergency services to try and free captured MotoristsA freak sandstorm, which on a highway in the northern Germany gives one more folding, where died eight and dozens injured swept.

Sand and debris were blown close State, to the four-lane motorway A19 near the city of Rostock, on the Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Friday.

The pile up in 80 cars and three trucks, set with 20 vehicles on fire.

A combination of the last dry weather, fields, and strong winds plowing was blamed for the accident.

At least 41 people were injured. Many suffered severe injuries and there are fears that the death toll could rise.

A driver named only as Steffen, told reporters, that "suddenly, there was a black wall of sand and then I could not see anything and I was pushed into another car".

He added: "I've never seen anything like it before and it is difficult to describe." I think, I later realize what happened. "I think this is my second birthday today."

All the fatalities appear is occurred on the northbound carriageway.

One of the trucks involved it was carrying inflammable material and sparked several fires.

Roadway crashed about 30 vehicles on the South.

The road was closed, in both directions as rescue work continued.
